Who we are?

Bhaskara Herbals and Research Centre was established in 2006 as an organization promoting the rich Ayurvedic heritage of the late Vaidyakalanidhi N.Govindapillai and Dr.K.G.Bhaskarapilla (DAM). The philosophy of this organization is embedded in the 90+ years of Ayurvedic practice and wisdom passed down through generations. Its current operations include Ayurvedic and Siddha medicine manufacturing, clinical treatment and Ayurvedic research.

Rooted in centuries-old traditions, we offer a range of authentic Ayurveda and Siddha products, designed to harmonize the mind, body and spirit. Our formulations are aimed at promoting wellness and balance by meticulously blending the finest herbs and natural ingredients.

Our History

Bhaskara Herbals was built on the foundation laid by the two great Ayurvedic practitioners, Vaidyakalanidhi N.Govindapillai and his son Dr. Bhaskarapillai (D.A.M.). Their contributions in the field of Ayurveda and their deep-rooted knowledge in its traditions are at the core of our treatment philosophy. This ensures that all our products embody the essence of authentic, time-tested healing practices. Our dedication to this tradition allows us to bring the profound benefits of Ayurveda and Siddha into your daily life, just as it has been cherished for generations. Vaidyakalanidhi N.Govindanpillai
(1897-1980)

Vaidyakalanidhi N.Govindapillai, born in 1897, was a highly respected and renowned practitioner of Ayurveda and Sidha. From a young age, Govindapillai was deeply influenced and inspired by the Ayurvedic practitioners in his village. He began his education in the science of Ayurveda from the Government Ayurveda Medical College, Trivandrum. After graduation, he began his medical career in 1925, in Puthukadai, southern Travancore (presently Kanyakumari district). During his career, he developed a profound understanding of the classical Ayurvedic texts and furthered his expertise through extensive clinical practice and research.

His proficiency in clinical Ayurveda lead to him establishing the ‘Govinda Vilasam Ayurveda Vaidyashala’ in 1930 at Kuzhuthurai, Kanyakumari (which was later re-established as BhaskaraVilasam Ayurveda Vaidyashala). His goal was to bring the benefits of Ayurveda to common folk allowing them to lead lives without ailments. His knowledge and unique approach in managing the disease and medical conditions made him a household name at the time.

His illustrious career gained him glory and inspired generations of Ayurvedic practitioners. After Govindapillai, his son Dr. Bhaskarapillai took over the clinical practice and kept alive the Ayurvedic traditions instilled in him by his father. Bhaskarapillai was then followed by his children Dr. Pradeep Kumar P.B. (BAMS) and P. B. Meera Lakshmi.

Dr. K.G. Bhaskarapillai (DAM), Assistant Research Officer CCRAS (1941-2021)

Dr. K.G Bhaskarapilla was the son of late Vaidyakalanidi N. Govindanpilla. He completed his Diploma in Ayurvedic Medicine (DAM) from the Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He then joined the Central Research Institute of Indian Medicine (CRIIM) at Poojapura, Thiruvananthapuram in 1966. Following the organization restructure in 1970, CRIIM was renamed to the Central Council for Research Ayurvedic Science (CCRAS). He worked there for 19 years where he made significant contributions to Ayurveda Research and Development.

In 1980, he joined the Thanjavur Ayurveda Literary Research Unit as Assistant Research Officer. This unit focused on the preservation, documentation and research on ancient Ayurvedic texts and literature. His work here further improved his understanding and application of traditional Ayurvedic knowledge and practices.

K.G.Bhaskarapilla retired from Thanjavur Ayurveda Literary Research Unit in 1989, following which he took over his father’s clinical practice and served as the Chief Physician at Bhaskara Vilasam Ayurveda Vaidyasala, Kuzhithurai. Over the years, he continued to practice and promote Ayurveda, offering treatment and healing to many patients. His work and contributions have been significant in the preservation and propagation of the traditional Ayurvedic treatment practices developed by his father.

Dr. P.B Pradeep Kumar BAMS
(1967- 2021)

Dr. Pradeep Kumar, son of late Dr. K.G Bhaskarapillai, completed his Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) from Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College Ollur, Thaikkattussery, Thrissur in 1993. He continued his professional journey at the Vaidyaratnam unit in Trivandrum for 5 years, following which he served as an assistant physician at Bhaskara Vilasam Vaidyashala for a decade. Dr. Pradeep Kumar’s expertise in Ayurvedic science significantly contributed to the research and development of authentic herbal products at Bhaskara Herbals and Research Centre.

Our current generation of Ayurvedic practitioners include P. B. Meera Lakshmi (d/o late Dr. Bhaskarapillai) and Dr. Shyam Krishna M.S. (BAMS). They carry forward the Ayurvedic tradition of their family with the unwavering support of our proprietor Mr. R. Sreeprasanth.
